LCD Display FAQ - Glomore Electro-Tech

LCD Displays

When looking at the differences between TN, STN and FSTN there is major difference is twist angle. TN is twisted at an angle of 90 degrees, while STN can have an angle between 90 and 270 degrees. This provides more contrast than twisted nematic (TN) displays. With the change of twisted angle and different angles of polarizer film, STN can display Yellow-Green, Blue and Gray modes.

STN is superior to TN in more duty cycles and excellent opto-electro functions, requires less power and less expensive than TFT LCDs but slower response time than TFT LCD.

FSTN has special retardation films added for superior clarity in the displays with the rear polarizer to make up for the interfering color of STN so that a true color can be seen. Different angles of the film can create more options Like Positive FSTN: white or gray background with black font and Negative FSTN: Black background with gray or white font.

LCD or TFT uses LED Backlit (light-emitting diode) behind or around the edge of display instead of reflected light. LED Backlit is used to illuminate liquid crystals and produce visual images.

Yes, TFT operates at both 3.3V and 5V. However, as the 3.3V becomes the new standard. Please refer to the model specifications for details for voltage and power requirements.

Interfaces: Parallel, I2C, 3/4-line SPI, RGB, MCU, LVDS, MIPI etc.

Operating Temperature: -20 ~ 70°C and Automotive grade +80°C, Please refer individual specification for more details.

Yes, available with Resistive or Capacitive touch screen as single piece or unit.

Yes, we can, even you can find initialization codes in some technical sheet itself.

Yes, Primarily Glomore Electro-Tech does help end user to select right product to meet technical-commercial requirements along with initialization code to kickstart the project.

Yes, we have an expertise in LCD customization under various technology such as TN, VA TN, STN, FSTN and TFT along with various features, display mode, Polarizer and viewing angles.

Yes. Glomore Electro-Tech TFT LCDs response time is good enough for moving picture. Please check the individual display specification for detail information.

TN, STN, TFT Displays are supposedly the most common type of display units found in Consumer and Industrial market segment.

Yes, we can provide the initialization codes for almost all Displays.

Organic light emitting diodes (OLED) displays are an emissive display technology. Each dot as a OLED that is illuminated on the display glowing phosphor small and bright area as a point of source lights. OLED are the latest member of the solid-state lighting family. OLED lighting is composed of thin organic layers sandwiched between two electrodes. OLEDS are uniquely thin and lightweight as OLED do not require a backlight, more efficient than LCD displays

Basically, OLED display have the following advantages over LCD.

  • Improved Quality: Better contrast, higher brightness, wider viewing angle, faster refresh rates.
  • Lower power consumption.
  • Thin & flexible.
  • Better durability: can operate in a broader temperature range.

TFT displays are also known as an “Active Matrix TFT LCD module” and have an array of thin film transistors fabricated on the glass that makes the LCD. There is one of these transistors for each pixel on the LCD. LCDs use voltage applied to a field of microscopic liquid crystals to change the crystal’s orientation, which in turn changes the polarization of the liquid crystal which creates light or dark pixels on the display. These pixels are arranged to create characters or graphic images. This type of display may be sunlight-readable and may have a backlight, which allows it to be viewed in dark areas.

As a whole LCD display does not need UL certification, though, some of the components like PCB and wires used for backlight.

CE certification is typically for end products. Since the LCD is a component, so it does not require CE certification.

Yes, all are RoHS compliant.
